Experience

My passion for teaching has always come from a desire for students to develop a love of learning. From large classrooms of 40 students to small tutoring sessions with 2-3 students, the objective of teaching does not change. I am pursuing a Ph.D in English to continue that passion for teaching. I have taught for three years in subjects ranging from writing, public speaking, debate, theatre, history, government, philosophy, and literature. The classes I have taught ranged from 3 students to 40 students. One thing I offer, upon request, is a full course complete with syllabus. Just tell me the course you would like me to teach and I will provide a complete syllabus for you to review and approve. I primarily teach with the Socratic method, which means teacher-student interaction is the priority. This ensures that the student does not just remember a lecture. Rather, the student learns the information in the best way for them to internalize it. Additionally, the student learns to explain what they learn instead of simply recite what they heard. Teaching is not a job, it is a blessing. The chance to interact with students and embark on a journey of learning with them is truly an exciting one that I hope to have for many years. Just send me a message and I will be more than happy to do what I can to help! Moreover, Christian is a very dynamic personality whose enthusiasm for literature is highly contagious... Christian’s teaching was informed, engaging, and at a level appropriate to the student audience. Christian also substituted for me one day in Western Literature when I had to be out when my son was born. My students were extremely impressed with his command of the material and teaching persona."-Dr. Cory Grewell -"I have been sufficiently impressed with Christian’s English abilities that I have used him informally as a proof-reader for papers which I was submitting. He showed a high competency at understanding the text, bringing to my attention issues both grammatically and intellectual which I needed to address...It is further worth mentioning that Mr. Fernandez has a very out-going and charming personality. Such a personality is always very useful in teaching (even for an on-line course)...Christian would quickly develop good rapport with his students."-Dr. Stephen McRoberts -"Your sessions with Hope have been extremely helpful! I am so thankful for you! She enjoys working with you as well...You're easier to talk to." Cheryl Turner, mother of a debate student.
